All of WildflowerAbys breeding cats and kittens are CFA registered and come from Champion bloodlines. The cattery is also registered with CFA. All of our cats and kittens are born and raised in a small, in-home cattery. Our cattery is a "closed" cattery, meaning that no cats are taken out or brought in for breeding purposes. At any given time, there is only one resident sire, and no more than three breeding females. Generally, the adult cats are not maintained in cages. They have full run of the house, except for females when they are due to deliver a litter and shortly thereafter while they bond with their kittens. The sire/father is usually curious about and present at the birth of his kittens, and over time develops an affectionate relationship with his offspring.
All cats and kittens, once old enough, have access to large, safe decks, where they are free to enjoy this forest environment and engage in bird watching, butterfly chasing and the like without being exposed to the hazards of life in the wild outdoors.
All of the kittens grow up in the company of our dog, Tucker... an Australian Shepherd. By the time they are old enough for placement in new homes, the kittens are thoroughly socialized... "great bedfellows", comfortable with all people, including children, and being intelligent cats, as Abyssinians are, well able to learn and
accommodate "house rules" in their new homes.
We periodically check with people who have adopted our Abyssinian Kittens in the past six years to see how things are going. In this time, I have lost contact with only three adopting families. All others report being delighted with their Abys.
The kittens are born here, at home, without professional/surgical intervention. While we are always present at the time of birthing, we prefer to let the momma cats deliver without any more intervention on our part than is absolutely necessary.
